El capítol de llibre “Gender-Equity Policies in Sport in Practice: From Words to Action”, signat per Susanna Soler, Ingrid Hinojosa-Alcade, Pedrona Serra i Ana Andrés ha estat publicat al llibre Improving Gender Equity in Sports Coaching.

The development and implementation of gender-equity policies in sport organisations—such as affirmative action in recruiting, retaining, and promoting women coaches—are neither easy nor automatic. The implementation of new gender-equity policies therefore requires not only a move towards more transformative practices, but also a shift from words to specific actions, engaging people to implement affirmative actions taking into consideration their own attitudes and experiences. Although men and women coaches work within the same profession, their sociodemographic characteristics are significantly different. Women coaches systematically occupy positions of less power within sports organisations. Co-headcoaching, a practice in which two coaches come together to jointly coach a team as equals, has been revealed as an innovative organisational structure that helps women to continue the coaching career, while retaining female talent in sport clubs. Providing gender lens training and raising awareness is an essential task in initial and ongoing training for coaches, sport leaders, and policymakers.

L’article The Emotional States Elicited in a Human Tower Performance: Case Study, signat per Sabrine Damian-Silva, Carles Feixa, Queralt Prat, Rafael Luchoro-Parrilla, Miguel Pic, Aaron Rillo-Albert, Unai Sáez de Ocáriz, Antoni Costes i Pere Lavega-Burgués, ha estat publicat a Frontiers in Psychology.

Human Towers are one of the most representative traditional sporting games in Catalonia, recognized in 2010 as Intangible Cultural Heritage by the United Nations Organization for Education, Science and Culture (UNESCO). The objective of this research was to study the emotional states (well-being, discomfort, and affectivity) elicited by a representative performance of the colla de Castellers de Lleida. This research is based on an ethnographic case study, with mixed methods in which 17 key informants (castellers) voluntarily participated. Participant observation was used; the data were recorded in a field diary and oral sources (semi-structured interviews). The content analysis was done using the Atlas.ti software (version 8.4.4). An SPSS database was also created. The statistical techniques were: Descriptive statistical techniques, cross tables with Pearson’s Chi-square values (significance level of p < 0.05). We also used a classification and regression trees (CRT) to examine the predictive capacity of five independent variables (data source, logic, semantic units; contexts of a performance) of emotional states. The results reveal that the comments (n = 132) were mostly oriented toward well-being states (n = 70; 53%), The internal cooperative logic of the Human Towers enhances the intense interpersonal relationships of socio-emotional well-being.

Ja us podeu descarregar el programa educatiu ‘#ORGULLOSA.

L’article ‘Benefits of Outdoor Sports in Blue Spaces. The Case of School Nautical Activities in Viana do Castelo‘, signat per Míriam Rocher, Bruno Silva, Gonçalo Cruz, Renato Bentes, Josep Lloret i Eduard Inglés ha estat publicat al International Journal of Environmental Research and Public Health.

“Participating in outdoor sports in blue spaces is recognized to produce a range of significant social benefits. This case study empirically analyzes the social benefits associated with the School Nautical Activities project carried out in Viana do Castelo (Portugal) in school-age children and adolescents. It consisted of a 4 year program in which scholars took part in nautical activities (surfing, rowing, sailing, and canoeing) in blue spaces once a week during a semester as a part of their physical education course. The methods used for data collection were as follows: (1) a survey answered by 595 participants in the program and (2) five focus groups (FG): two FGs with participants (seven on each FG), two FGs with their parents (eight participants each), and one FG with the physical education teachers (five participants). Interviews were transcribed and qualitative analysis with NVivo software was developed. Results revealed clear evidence on the social benefits for school-age children and adolescents associated with participation in outdoor activities in blue spaces both in the overall health and in all the following analyzed categories: mental health and well-being, education, active citizenship, social behavior, and environmental awareness. More than 40% state that their overall health is much better now (13.4%) or somewhat better now (29.9%) due to their participation in the program. Thus, this article provides support for the anecdotal recognition of the benefits for school-age children and adolescents from participating in sports in the outdoors and especially in blue spaces.”

L’article ‘I was always made fun of for being fat: first-hand accounts of bullying in children’s football‘, signat per Gonzalo Flores, Maria Prat, Carles Ventura i Xènia Ríos ha estat publicat a Physical Education and Sport Pedagogy.

“The study purpose was to explore perceptions of bullying in children’s football (8-13 years) based on the experiences of players, families, and coaches. We conducted a multiple case study. Participants from four football clubs and one coaching academy in Catalonia (Spain) were selected to take part in nine focus group sessions (three for each group: players, families and coaches). Data from the sessions were analyzed by content analysis. Four main categories were identified: (1) type of bullying, (2) causes, (3) sites of occurrence, and (4) feelings and emotions towards bullying. These have included a series of direct quotes to reflect the main contributions made by the three sets of participants (players, parents, and coaches) based on their most significant experiences. The accounts of the participants show the existence of a wide range of bullying situations and experiences and highlight the need for immediate action towards the prevention and eradication of bullying in children’s football.”

L’article ‘Validation of a Spanish-Language versión of the Weight Pressures in Sport Scale for male athletes‘, signat per Clara Teixidor Batlle, Carles Ventura Vall-llovera, Justine J. Reel i Ana Andrés ha estat publicat a Journal of Clinical Sport Psychology.

“The study purpose was to validate the psychometric properties of a Spanish-language version of the weight pressures in sport scale for male athletes. The weight pressures in sport scale for male athletes assesses risk factors associated with sport-specific weight pressures from coaches, peers, and team uniform. The scale was back translated and administered to 407 Spanish male college athletes. The sample was randomly split to perform the exploratory and confirmatory analysis. After item analysis, three items were removed. The exploratory analysis identified two latent constructs (referring to coaches and teammates pressures, and pressures due to uniform), and the confirmatory analysis produced a two-factor model (comparative fit indexSB = .946, Tucker–Lewis indexSB = .925, root mean square of approximationSB = .071, standardized root mean square residualSB = .068). The overall scale showed adequate internal consistency (α = .82) and demonstrated adequate convergent validity with the other questionnaires. The Spanish-language version of the weight pressures in sport scale for male athletes can be used to measure weight-related pressures among male athletes in sport psychology and clinical settings.”
